Get More Network Capacity that’s Easier to Turn Up with Zayo

Blog

|January 16, 2025

It’s no secret: enterprise bandwidth requirements will only continue to rise in 2025. Enterprises require increasingly more bandwidth to fuel advanced technologies, cloud-based applications, and digital transformation efforts. They need bandwidth in new and expanding locations – and they need it fast. At the same time, increased network needs are forming an intricate and complex web of network technologies.

That’s why at Zayo, we’re creating a new way to operate your network. We’re intentionally and strategically investing in technology to improve our service delivery intervals and building to locations and data centers where our customers need more connectivity now and in the future.

Without further adieu, here’s what’s new:

Zayo’s Longest Long-Haul Route to Date

P20 North America 400G Capabilities

This quarter, we’re introducing two brand-new 400G routes, including our highly-anticipated northern route which connects the economic powerhouses of Seattle, Chicago, and New York. This route is now the most direct, lowest latency, and highest bandwidth route connecting this critical corridor. The fastest route in the market between Seattle and New York City, this route empowers real-time applications like financial trading and live streaming. Diverse from existing coast-to-coast 400G Wavelength routes, the new northern route enhances network reliability and redundancy.

In addition, we’ve enabled a brand new 400G Wavelength route from Columbus to Ashburn. The Columbus to Ashburn route is 100% underground, entirely Zayo-owned, and unique providing diverse connectivity and redundancy in critical data center hubs.

These updates bring Zayo’s North American network to nearly 98% 400G enablement. With 400G capacity, our customers can confidently take advantage of bandwidth-intensive technologies and real-time applications and prepare for the future.

Wavelengths Delivered in 30 Days On Average

While the generally accepted timeframe for delivery for a standard Wavelength circuit is 30-90 days, Zayo is intent on setting a new industry standard. Since 2023, we’ve been innovating to bring services to customers faster with ready-to-go capacity along our entire core long-haul Wavelength network. Supported by our waves reservation system, we are able to deliver Wavelength orders in 30 days on average.

Here’s how it works:

  • The Zayo account and sales engineering team works with customers to understand their network path needs
  • Zayo creates the routing for the customer, reserving the route(s) needed before purchase
  • Once the customer is ready to purchase, the Waves are ready to go where needed

Agile, Flexible Data Center Connectivity

P30 North America IP Network

This quarter, we’re continuing our focus on increasing data center connectivity. We’ve added 2+ Tb of peering capacity, six additional 100G IP PoPs, and pre-provisioned capacity at 12 more data centers. In the past year, we introduced 400G PoPs for the first time with 14 completed by the turn of the year, enabling future capabilities and even greater throughput. We’re committed to turning up massive capacity to prepare to scale our network in the future as bandwidth needs continue to grow.

And we’re not just expanding our connectivity in data centers – we’re making it easier and faster to turn up service, too. In 2024, we enabled pre-provisioned capacity at 50 data centers, allowing Zayo customers to quickly turn up IP service.

Additionally, a hosted CloudLink connection to AWS over Ethernet can be turned up at popular data centers in just five minutes. Eligible data centers include:

  • 11 Great Oaks Blvd, San Jose
  • 2972 Stender Way, Santa Clara
  • 624 S Grand Ave, Los Angeles
  • 2001 6th Ave, Seattle
  • 6327 NE Evergreen Pkwy, Hillsboro
  • 910 15th St, Denver
  • 21715 Filigree Ct, Ashburn
  • 12100 Sunrise Valley Dr, Reston
  • 50 NE 9th St, Miami
  • 350 E Cermak Rd, Chicago
  • 511 11th Ave S, Minneapolis
  • 315 8th Ave SW, Calgary

Zayo’s Commitment to Expansion and Ease

To recap, here’s what’s new this quarter:

  • Two new 400G Wavelength routes bringing Zayo’s network to 98% 400G-enablement
  • Rapid turn-up at 12 more data centers, bringing us to 50 total data centers with ready-to-go capacity in 2024
  • Access precise route selection, delivered in under 45 days – averaging 28 days for Waves installation with our Waves reservation system
  • Connect with CloudLink to AWS over Ethernet at eligible data centers in just 5 minutes
