Route to connect Columbus to Pittsburgh
BOULDER, Colo. –
Zayo Group Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: ZAYO) today announced plans for a new long haul fiber network between Columbus, Ohio and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Construction on the success-based route will start this quarter and is anticipated to be completed in 2020.
The build will span more than 200 route miles from Columbus to Wheeling, West Virginia, Washington, Pennsylvania and Pittsburgh. Customers can benefit from reduced latency on the new route and connect to Cincinnati, Indianapolis and Chicago via Zayo’s existing fiber network.
Columbus is home to a strong and diverse base of businesses that span education, technology, government, research, fashion, retail, insurance and healthcare. With its central location and proximity to major population centers, Columbus and New Albany, Ohio have become increasingly important data center hubs.
Over the past two decades, Pittsburgh’s economy has diversified significantly. Its growing economy is fueled by manufacturing, healthcare, higher education, tourism, financial markets, banking and technology industries.
“The build is driven by a customer’s need for a physically diverse route from existing providers connecting these two strategic markets,” said Steve Orlando, senior vice president of Central Region at Zayo. “The expansion will provide a superior option for reliable, high-capacity fiber connecting data centers and contact centers in important population centers.”
Zayo continues to grow its footprint in the eastern U.S. Last year, Zayo announced a new route from Columbus to Ashburn that is expected to provide the lowest latency between the two cities. In June, Zayo also announced the addition of nearly 300 new route miles of fiber in the Youngstown, Ohio area.
